Messed up morning / Roll Call

Hope everyone ended up having a good morning. Not sure what happened but the park entry appeared to be closed this morning. There was a line of cars down the street. The park entry appeared to reopen around 6:00 AM. In the future we need to have a back-up plan in the event that happens again. Maybe head over to 32nd street and Lincoln trail head. So, does anyone know what happened? Was it just a matter of the ranger getting to the park late? What did everyone end up doing?

Let the record show that I have multiple witnesses that I ended up running from the 32nd street trailhead this morning. Higgins

Prediction: Now that Tempe town lake is only 3 feet deep I predict record swim times in the upcoming Ironman!!!

Apparently, I picked the correct morning to sleep in.

Heck, I think I'll be able to cover that 2.4 mile Ironman 'swim' in 15 minutes now.

Sounds like a good day for me to miss again. I have my 4 year old grandson visiting.

When does the park start charging for entry in August? How about a group discount? :)

Don’t get me started. I can go on and on about this. That $5.00 fee was utterly ridicules. The revised $2.00 fee still doesn’t make sense. Regardless, it’s my belief it will cost just as much to enforce than revenue coming in. Headaches forthcoming for area residents. I will post more about this soon. District 6 (borders Phoenix Mountains and South Mountain) Councilman Sal DiCiccio is on record of opposing this and seems to be working hard to eliminate the fees. DiCiccio said. “It will not be enforced – meaning no one has to pay any fine -- until the City Council authorizes that, which might not be for months, until after an education period.” So, how the city will enforce the fees has not been determined and enforcement will not go into effect until at least 2011. This is not a well thought out plan!!

If you think the fees are good for the parks upkeep and staffing, think again. All fees are slated to go into the Phoenix general fund. How in the heck did Parks and Rec Director David Larsen come up with this bright idea?

How about a freakin permit for a freakin trail race to raise some freakin revenue for the freakin parks specifically!

I said don’t get me started:)

Thanks for the explaino! I was ready to fork over the $75 for the year pass. That is what I saw in the paper.

Amen on your comment:How about a freakin permit for a freakin trail race to raise some freakin revenue for the freakin parks specifically!

I have gone in front of the city of Scottsdale three times to get a permit for a race in the Sonoran Preserve. Now, you got me started! I explained to them the low impact from running and they recognize that the bikes, etc. have a great impact. I explained to them using my laptop sharing run100s.com and simular so that they could appreciate the local, nationial and possible international popularity. I sold them on the tax revenue brought in by motels, car rental, food, etc. Notta! You would think they would take any responable tax revenue. I won't give up as I love trail running. I offered 100% proceeds from a race. Still NO! So, now a hush hush run for us again. November 27th, 2010. Soon avalable is: Tomthumbrun.com Cheers!

Dave and I can vouch for Higgins. ...and Kirk can vouch for Dave and I. We had a great 7 mile run up the 32nd street tail. The parking lot at the SW corner of 32nd st and Lincoln was wide open... new starting point??
