Zane Grey 50 Recovery Run 4.28.10
Come one come all. Group trail run this Wednesday in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Meet at the very top lot of Squaw Peak Drive north of Glendale / Lincoln Avenue at 5:16 AM. Plan on a little over one hour at a slow to moderate pace.
Past Runner of The Week notables have ranged from 1st place winners of Ultra Events, to 1st time Ultra Finishers, to Race Directors, and to aid station workers. This week is very special. The Taylor Paige Cosmas story has inspired us all to give our loved ones a longer firmer hug.
This past weekend Taylor and the Cosmas Family inspired the WMRC contingent during the Zane Grey 50 Mile race. To show our support to the family, Joe Galope, the race director of Zane Grey 50, assigned Mark Cosmas bib number 200 that we all signed and that Jeff Jones wore from the start to the finish. We also all wore Purple Wrist Bands and showed off “colors”.
Little Taylor will be in our hearts forever.
The WMRC contingent of runners, crew and family was strong at ZG. Congratulations to Jeremy Daugherty for competing and finishing his first 50-mile. Nice work on the “toughest 50 mile” 12:24. Congrats to Paulette for her 3rd place female finish. 11:50. Nick Coury finished a very strong 6th at 10:23. Other notable finishers: Chip, Jamil, Jon Roig, Jody, Higg (man I look good in that hat!), John Pearce, Honey, Jeff Jones, and Robert Andrulis. Additional Edit: Congrats to Nathan Coury who also finished which was his longest trail run to date!!!
Scott Jaime, our visitor last week and our newest WMRC family member won the race in 9:40:55. Check out his last couple of posts and race report. He had some very nice things to say about our group. He also dedicated his win to Mark.
As people send me photos of the day I will load them into the following file:
Good Luck to Kirk at Ironman St. George Saturday. The Purple Bracelet shall live on!!

A Taylor Run This Morning
Very nice group run this morning. Great weather. Nice easy pace. Good turnout (23+). We also had a special guest. It was very nice of Scott Jaime to come out and run with us this morning. Hopefully Scott got some of our WMRC karma and runs a great Zane Grey 50 this weekend.

WMRC 4.21.10 / There are no words
For some moments in life there are no words. The death of a loved one, child, daughter is beyond comprehension. Mark and Katie Cosmas' daughter Taylor passed away Sunday afternoon. Please keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Service information is forthcoming.
7 years ago Mark, me and a few friends started to invite people to go on a mid week training run. Mark pinned it "WMRC" Wednesday Morning Running Club. Every Wednesday since there has been a group trail run in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. I hope you all will join me this Wednesday 5:15 AM. Same location. Higgins

Spring is here!!!
Baseball Opening day is here and that is the first sign of Spring. We will have an easy run this Wed at 5:17 am for about and hour and I guarantee, Kirk will not be leading.
I was out in the preserve this morning looking for my lungs from last weeks run. That alone should get me runner of the week because I have been averaging about 1.3 run days per week for about 5 months, which is coincidentally that same age as baby Taylor, go figure. The weather was unbelievable! Lights off at about 5:45.
Runner of the week goes to Paul Bonnet for his Easter outfit last week and carrying an Easter basket the entire way. Well done Pauly! Lose the shorts.
Runner up goes to Taylor for taking her first bite of Happy Baby solid (sort of) food this morning. She ate more calories in this first feeding than Kirk eats in a 100 miler.
I spent the past few days "training" in Squaw Valley, hehee. They have had about 4 feet of snow in the last week and a half. This is going to make for an exciting climb up to Emigrant pass for you Western States participants. Many snow crossings and probably a boat across the river at Rucky Chucky. Here is what Emigrant looked like Saturday about 1:30 pm.
See you all Wed am at 5:17 for an easy run thru the preserve. Let's keep the good attendance going.

Zane Grey Trail Marking Day 4.18.10
It's that time of year again kids...Zane Grey Trail Marking Day. Sunday, April 18th, we will meet at the Safeway in Payson at 7:00 AM. Safeway is located at the intersection of Hwy 260 & 89. Turn right at the light towards Showlow, 260, the Safeway will be on your right. My cute little red Honda Element will be in the parking lot. Great place to get some snackies and there's a Starbuck's inside as well.
For those of you doing the race, not to worry, I won't wear you out. The more people we get, the faster it will go...very low key. Plan on marking around 7-8 miles. Great way to see part of the course. Everyone is welcome, invite your friends!!
So I can coordinate groups, please let me know if you can make it. You can e-mail me at selectionsstore4@aol.com or call my cell 602-399-0531.
Thank you!!!
