Poker Revovery Run / Wed. Morning 10/28

Reminder: Group trail run in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve tomorrow morning 5:16AM. Plan on a little over one hour at a slow to moderate pace. Meet at the usual location, very top lot Squaw Peak Drive. Don’t miss out of the incredible sunrise!! Should be a little cool out. Nice!
Great weather contributed to a fun filled 2009 Squaw Peak Scramble Poker Run Saturday morning. Runner of the Week, Candice won the grand prize with her pair of Jacks to a King. Candice got to take home and proudly display the traveling trophy. She also took home this year’s Javelina Jundred duffel bag filled with swag. Robert Andrulis come oh so close. He also pulled a pair of Jacks but only to an 8. Maybe next year Robert!
Best costume went to Jamil Coury for his Spartan Warrior. Checkpoint workers report lots of inquires about the guy running around with a sword. McCarville told them not to worry he is out there all the time! 2nd place went to Nick Coury with his Ultra Legend Karl Meltzer impersonation. Adam’s Men and Honey’s Women speed records are still safe but there was an epic battle this year between Albert Shank and Nick aka “Karl Meltzer” for the quickest time. Epic until Nick very Karl like got attacked by a moose like coyote. Nick failed to get behind a cactus to protect himself. The result was a major kick to the shin. Ouch!! No makeup was used in this photo. All real blood. Doctor report available upon request. Squaw Peak Scramble Photos: HereThanks to all who attended, ran the checkpoints and contributed giveaways!! Special thanks to Cosmas who puts it all together.

Next up this weekend is the Javelina Jundred 100 mile trail race. Good luck to Debbie and Chip. Anyone else?? Follow along on the live webcast. Jamil could still use some volunteers. Please contact him.

Cave Creek Trail Marathon 1/31/10

When: January 31th, 2010

Time: 7:30 AM

Where: Spur Cross Conservation Area

Cave Creek, Arizona

Distance: 26.2 Miles with 6,200' elevation gain

Hydration: 60 oz. Minimum to start

Aid Station: There is one aid station at the 12 mile mark. It will have all the regular ultra type food.

Jody Chase would like to invite my running friends to participate in another trail run in beautiful Tonto National Forest. This is only a gathering of friends who enjoy each other's company, the trails and would like to train on this gorgeous loop in a semi supported fashion. Last year was a record turn out of 40 people. This year, the trail has been newly restructured so there will a lot less cat claw and cross country running. The trail is in great shape. I will provide water/aid at the "top" of the loop, approximately 12 miles and will mark the course so I don't lose anyone. Maps will be provided. Although you are responsible for your own direction finding and well being. Donations of $10.00 will be graciously accepted. Whatever is left over after I pay for aid station supplies will be given to charity or other needy entity. This is a tough course that is not for the timid. The average finishing time is 6 hours. If you are not familiar with trail running, trail finding, trail etiquette, are ill-equipped, do not hydrate or are not prepared for the rigors, challenges of trail running in Arizona's back country, please wait another year. Search and rescue are not in my budget. Otherwise, for those who meet the above criteria, I would love to see you in January as some of the toughest runners in the valley gather to share a great run.

Man V Horse Recovery Run 10/10

We are on as always for a group trail run in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Wednesday morning 5:18 AM. Meet at the very top of Squaw Peak Drive. Plan on a little over one hour at a slow to moderate pace.

WMRC had another great show at this year’s 2009 Man Against Horse 25 / 50 mile trail run. This week there is a Female and Male Runner of the week. Lisa Osinga ran her first 50-mile trail race and completed it in a very strong fashion. She easily wins the female ROW. Way to go Lisa!! The Male Runner of the week was very close but Jamil Coury hangs on to beat his brother Nick. Literally. Jamil won this years race with a time of 7 hours and 8 minutes. He almost had all the horses beat until one passed him within a mile of the finish. Nick finished only 2 minutes behind Jamil. After the first 10 miles they didn’t see each other all day. Great job

The results aren’t posted yet so we are still a little foggy on who competed what. What is understood there where 6 WMRC’s in the top 10 of the 50 mile. After Jamil and Nick, Chip finished 7th in 8:40 even after getting lost. Jody was first female at 9:09. Joe Galope 9th at 9:15. Paulette Zillmer 10th overall, 2nd women. Very Impressive Run. Jeff Jones, Debbie L, Lisa O and Aaron finish off the group (unless I am missing someone).

In the 25-mile we had Tiffany Finke who was the 2nd female overall with a time of 4:04. Very Nice!! Albert Shank also had a great run. Candice and Honey too!! Lastly (unless I missed someone) Mark Cosmas completed the 25 even without his good buddy Higg. Reports are that he cried a little but persevered solo to the finish. Check out JJ's MVH video below.

Next up is Mazatzals 18 mile trail run Sunday. Also don't forget the Copper Basin Fat-Ass 50K on the 17th of October and the WMRC Squaw Peak Scramble Poker Run on the 24th!
